Ouch!

A trip to the ballpark is usually one of my favorite outings. Root, root, root for the hometeam, I feel connected to the crowd, my family (baseball lovers all), and the tradition of the sport.

Last night’s excursion was not one of those times. It was hot and steamy, with thunderstorms and hail forecast. Our seats were behind a know-it-all usher. We felt crowded in with people on either side of us and right in front, although the stadium had plenty of empty seats. But that would have been part of the charm if the Nationals had not allowed the Tigers to score 3 runs in the 1st inning, 4 in the 3rd, etc. Score when we left in the bottom of the 7th: 12 to 1. Score while we were out in the parking lot looking for our car: 15 to 1.

Nats fans left early and quietly, Tigers fans presumably stayed until the end.

Baseball can break your heart.
